A couple of weeks ago, I covered how the W South Beach, one of Miami Beach’s most well known hotels, will soon be closing for a renovation, and would no longer be affiliated with Marriott. At the time, I speculated that this would become a Waldorf Astoria, and that has now been confirmed and announced.

Maybe. The Waldorf Astoria in New York City is actually disappointing, at least with respect to the actual rooms.

Thanks. Following the Hilton press release stating that it’s going to be a Waldorf Astoria, we really appreciate your confirmation that this is indeed the case.

350 rooms is on the large size for WA. Curious what the room count is after the transformation. It's also sort of an old hotel design, wonder how that will shape up with the rebranding.

The W will die a slow death. It’s over.

Way higher standard pound for pound. W not in the same league

i would have said that this makes more sense. Waldorfs are more stately old world like admiralty arch, Conrads are more sleek modern like W and Miami Beach, but what the owner wants, the owners gets. Hilton doesn't much care about brand image, they care about getting the property in

I am, however, curious as to whether Hilton will manage the property. Marriott operated the W as legacy Starwood wouldn't franchise W. I believe Hilton manages all Waldorf Astoria properties but I'm not terribly sure. If Hilton is willing to franchise then I'm sure the management costs will be lower. On the whole, however, my impression is that Waldorf Astoria has marginally higher brand standards than a W.

This probably makes sense for the owner. No more elites to give breakfasts to since Hilton only offers a paltry F&B credit that often doesn't even cover the cost of breakfast.
