Delta Air Lines’ pilot union has set up a website to apologize to customers for the carrier’s declining operational reliability. The site is genuinely useful and comes across as just being intended to help, but the undertone here is very clear. I must say, this is very well played on the part of the union.

You can nitpick at all of the details you want, Mark. The simple reality is that Delta has put together a more successful airline in the past 48 years than any other airline in the United States and perhaps the world. American and United were two of the chosen instruments of the regulated era and yet Delta has managed to grow from 6th largest to the largest airline by revenue and market cap over the past 48 years. Delta also has run one of the best operations among US airlines for a longer period of time. United is still the 4th largest airline in most domestic markets outside of its hubs; that is United's deficiency whether you can see it or not. And it is that deficiency that keeps United from getting an industry-leading credit card agreement and now, Delta is focused on United's choicest assets which is the West Coast and TPAC. If Delta achieves even a fraction of what it says it will do, it will substantially lower the value of United's brand. Delta pilots have always stood behind the company far more than they have fought with it. They will absolutely benefit Front Delta's growth on the West Coast and to Asia and the Pacific. They will simply not make near as much money in overtime while Delta's operation will once again return to be industry-leading in all metrics

It might be true to say that Delta finished May as the strongest performing major U.S. airline for on-time arrivals, but the first five months of 2026 overall do not clearly establish Delta as the year’s most reliable airline. January 2026, Delta was well below its usual position—around 6th among reporting carriers. February and March, Delta did Improved from January, but not consistently number one. April, competitive but not clearly first overall. May, Delta only recorded the best on time performance among the large U.S. network airlines, is was beaten by the smaller carriers, leaving it only near the top overall. Selective data selection and performance claiming does not make for accurate analysis Walter. Time to check into the clinic for your addiction therapy …. Yes?
