Delta historically parked the smaller 763 (156' wingspan) there, but this route uses the massive 333. At 198' wide, squeezing it into A14–16 physically blocks two adjacent gates. E has dual jet bridges for fast widebody deplaning, so E is far more likely. That said, hope it works out for @Altin, regardless. But if for some reason Delta uses an A gate on arrival (terminal A is all-Delta), you won't be able to get to the new Sky Club without a departure boarding pass - no airside connection between A and E. Currently Delta says the HNL non-stop arrives in terminal E.

You can use the Sky Club or the Delta One Lounge, though the latter typically only opens in the afternoon.
