Thank you for saying this! I’ve been living in Singapore for the last 5ish years and service is always awful unless it’s a non-Singaporean (even then it’s mostly misses), and this country has absolutely no actual understanding of luxury. People gooning over Singapore just bewilders me, particularly when it comes to that God forsaken airline where the FAs can’t pronounce the names of the wines and you have some of the most outdated seats in the top airlines, completed by a truly awfully crowded lounge with nasty food. This is what happens when you have a bunch of proletariats who become wealthy very quickly. Most of whom really are just bourgeoisie anyways but their inflated egos tell them otherwise.

No, actually, you don’t, because you can read, and there’s nothing to really ‘negotiate’ here; it’s an adhesion contract, take-it-or-leave-it. Believe me, I wish consumers had better protections, and that airlines and other companies didn’t try to price-gouge or engage in deceptive practices.

But to make matters worse, so many people still talk about them like they are the same. Like how many people just on OMAAT’s comment section would write how they had stayed at the Ritz Amelia Island, for example, when in fact it is known as the Ritz Carlton Amelia Island. The Ritz and the Ritz Carlton are already two separate companies.

@sushicat I’d imagine they save on transaction fees (2-3.5% vs. 1%), but, yeah, then they don’t sell as many points to banks.

If you’re referring to the proliferation of QR-code based payment platforms, like Grab, etc., I believe you can still use Western credit cards, Visa, MC, etc., even on Alipay and WeChat Pay. But, then, the consumer pays fees, not the merchant, depending on circumstances.
