The Blue Business℠ Plus Credit Card from American Express has been one of the cards that has been most on my radar, and which I’ve wanted to apply for. What makes the card so great is that it has no annual fee, and it offers 2x Membership Rewards points on the first $50,000 spent each calendar year. I value Membership Rewards points at ~1.7 cents each, so to me that’s the equivalent of a ~3.4% return, which I consider to be the best return on non-bonused spend offered by any card.

When the card was first introduced last year it had a sign-up bonus of 20,000 points, though that was pulled very quickly, and ever since the card hasn’t had a sign-up bonus. The reality is that the card is so generous that it doesn’t really need to offer a bonus.

While I didn’t see this coming, it looks like the card is presently offering a sign-up bonus through American Express’ refer-a-friend portal. The Amex Blue Business Plus Card is offering a sign-up bonus of 10,000 Membership Rewards points after spending $3,000 within three months when signing up through a refer-a-friend link (the regular application still doesn’t have a bonus).

The person referring you also receives 10,000 Membership Rewards points, up to a total of 55,000 Membership Rewards points per year.

To refer a friend to the card, just log into your Amex account, and at the bottom you should see the section where you can refer someone. You can either enter someone’s name and email address, and it will send them an invitation to apply, or it will give you a customized link, and you can send that to someone directly.

While 10,000 points isn’t a huge sign-up bonus, it is better than nothing. This is such a fantastic card that I was willing to sign-up for it without a bonus. Good thing this came out the day I was going to apply. I let Ford refer me, and can’t wait to start using the card.

So if you’ve been considering applying for the Amex Blue Business Plus Card, here’s a link that will get you 10,000 Membership Rewards points after spending $3,000 within three months. If you’re an existing cardmember, you’re also welcome to leave your link below, and others can apply through it.

  1. Nice. My referral link is: http://refer.amex.us/JAMESFUvyt?xl=cp15 — many thanks to anyone who uses it. Good karma and all that. 🙂

And I agree — this is an exceptional card for uncategorized business spend, although I personally only use it for the first $50K. I’m lucky enough that my business will spend that fairly quickly, after which I’ll shift my spending to other cards to diversify my points holdings. Most likely the Chase Ink Business Preferred which I use for mobile phone bills, shipping, etc.

  2. If I already have the card, is it possible to cancel and re-apply through a referral link to get the bonus? Given that the first time I got the card, I never got a bonus? The lifetime language shouldn’t apply to me in that case right?

The sentences, which I read, though they have grammar, are not good.

  4. You can call in to American Express and request the original bonus, which was 20,000 MR points for $3,000 spend in 3 months. It took a few calls, but I was able to get it. Doctor of Credit has a good explanation for how to do this in a post from a couple of weeks ago.

  5. Why not, everybody else is doing it. I have had this card since it first came out, but for some reason I got hosed on the 20K sign up. It really irked me, the first and only time I have ever really been upset with Amex. Maybe a few referrals will get them back!! Thanks for using…

  6. @ Paul

I’ve seen worse English emanating from that side of the pond. And a lot of what is written on this side isn’t good!

  7. This is my go to card for all business spend, except what I put on my Ink+ for 5x – tv, internet, cell.

You can’t beat 2x points and this a card you will want to keep forever because it has $0 annual fee forever. If you get this card, you can cancel gold & platinum cards and your MR points will stay alive!

Thanks to anyone using my referral link!
