A stunning trailer has just been released for a documentary that will be coming out next year, entitled “Aviation: The Invisible Highway.”

What an absolutely gorgeous video that captures what I think has most of us obsessed with this hobby. As much as I write about caviar and Krug and good service and comfortable duvets and rubber ducks, at the end of the day that’s not what I truly love about flying.
It’s the miracle of flight that still has me hooked. Even millions of miles later, I still gaze at airplanes and airports the same way as I did the first day they caught my attention.
I still can’t help but have a huge smile on my face every time I enter the arrivals hall of a foreign airport and see so many people waiting for loved ones with signs, balloons, groups of people, etc., even if there’s no one waiting for me.
I can’t help but be in awe every time I look at the departures board at a major airport and see that there are literally flights to five continents departing within hours of one another.
The world is beautiful, amazing, and terrifying all at once, and really it’s airplanes that bridge the gap. And they don’t just bridge places, but more importantly people and stories.
Can’t wait for the documentary, looks like the ultimate #AvGeek porn!

Can't wait for the film thanks for the heads up! While I travel solo for the most part, I smile every time I see groups at the airport waiting for friends/family agree with you that it's awesome. That I can be in London the in the morning for breakfast with friends and home same day for dinner with family - amazing and grateful.
the trailer is beautiful, and i love that m83 is used for the music. it always amazes me that airports are this place where almost everyone is going and will soon be somewhere else, but for that moment, you are in the same space.

Lucky, I share your same sentiment. I've *only* flown 330K miles in the last 8 years and without even realizing, flying has become something I truly enjoy. Just imagining that I'm getting into a metal tube, sitting in a chair 30,000 feet above the earth, drinking wine and then suddenly I'm in a different part of the world... that is simply magical!

I am with you, Lucky, I always look at the boards to see where the flights go. Even in my home airport, BOS, flying out of Term A, I know there are only a few flights to Europe, but I still look at the board, every time, looking at the flights. While a lot of airports may be a mess, everyone has one they hate, those usually have the most interesting boards, I find.

Koyaanisqatsi is an interesting look at the state of things and our effect on the world. Not entirely related to the aviation documentary but still an interesting presentation. I saw the first two parts of the trilogy more than 20 years ago and have been affected ever since.

It reinforces in me a true feeling of just how miniscule I am. Standing on top of the dune at Kitty Hawk, feeling the breeze off the ocean, imagining lifting off the ground and...

The feeling of seeing all those people, either happy or sad because of leaving or even arriving, the smell of kerosine, the non-stop action. Someone lying on the floor, sleeping while waiting for the check-in to open.

I've traveled at high-security airports, like in Tel Aviv and on the other hand Los Roques, where a simple cord divides you from the airplane. Talking to someone that flies a 747 all across the world and some friends (I like to call them lucky bastards) that have their private licence and fly where ever they want. Can't wait to get my own!
I'm sure I'll get this documentary the day I can buy it.
Sometimes I still wonder why the flying bug bit me. Business Travel is not as glamorous as people think. Luckily 99% of my travel is private so i am in "control". But yes, once bitten you realise there is no cure. In a word "Majestic"
